How to Apply Your Iron-On Patch:
Applying your new patch is quick and easy! Follow these steps for best results:
Materials You'll Need:
- Iron-on patch
- Iron (no steam setting)
- Ironing board or hard, heat-resistant surface
- Thin cloth or parchment paper (e.g., a pillowcase, tea towel, or baking paper)
Instructions:
- Prepare Your Surface: Lay your garment flat on a hard, heat-resistant surface like an ironing board. Ensure the area where you'll be applying the patch is smooth and wrinkle-free.
- Preheat Your Iron: Turn your iron to its highest setting (usually cotton or linen) and turn off the steam function. Allow the iron to heat up completely.
- Position the Patch: Place the patch in the desired position on your garment. The adhesive side (shiny side, if visible) should be facing down against the fabric.
- Cover the Patch: Place a thin cloth (like a pillowcase or tea towel) or a piece of parchment paper over the patch. This protects the patch and your garment from direct heat.
- Apply Heat: Press the hot iron firmly down onto the covered patch. Apply constant, even pressure for approximately 20-30 seconds. Do not move the iron around; hold it steady in one spot. For thicker fabrics, you might need to iron for slightly longer.
- Flip and Repeat (Optional but Recommended): Turn the garment inside out and iron the back of the patch area for another 10-15 seconds to ensure thorough adhesion.
- Cool Down: Allow the patch and garment to cool completely before handling or testing the adhesion. If the edges lift, repeat steps 5-6.
- Care Instructions: For long-lasting results, turn the garment inside out before washing and use cold water on a gentle cycle. Air drying is recommended, or tumble dry on a low heat setting. Avoid bleaching.
Note: While iron-on patches are convenient, for items that will be washed frequently or subjected to heavy wear, or for materials like leather, we recommend stitching the patch on for maximum durability.
